3 First-Time Marathoners Complete Boston Marathon for Team DetecTogether

Monday, October 11, 2021: Congratulations to our three Boston Marathon runners for completing the historic and challenging course from Hopkinton to Boston on a unique Marathon Monday. We are so grateful for their monumental efforts. Way to go—Kelly, Jeff, and Andy!

Kelly Myers Benestad of Team DetecTogether finished in 4 hours, 51 min. She raised $11,750 to support early cancer detection programming. Kelly’s son, Matthew, was diagnosed with cancer at 13 years-old. She ran and shared their story to help other young adults and families understand the importance of early cancer detection.⁣

Jeff Ginsberg ran his first marathon as part of Team DetecTogether. “I couldn’t be more excited to run the 125th Boston Marathon as my first and do so for such a great cause.” Jeff finished in 4 hours, 36 min. and raised $12,416.

Andy Lipsky said “we have all been impacted by cancer…I have lost friends and family to this disease, and so I have commited to train and run my first marathon for DetecTogether.” Andy did a great job, finishing in 4 hours, 48 min. and raised $11,589

John Simpson initially planned to run and raise funds for DetecTogether, but he was sidelined with an injury. We are grateful that despite not being able to compete, he still raised $3,770 to support early cancer detection. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
